I'm going on a holiday - I'm going to LA to a sci-fi convention to meet people that I respect and admire. I should be happy. But whenever anyone brings it up I feel like crying and I want to move the conversation along. I only let myself think about it when I can actually DO something in the planning...

Anxieties

Lyra, if you're a freak, then so am I. Traveling alone makes me very nervous for the same reasons you mentioned - being late, getting lost, etc. One time I had to make a business trip and I scheduled everything so tightly, from arrival to departure, so that I literally had no time to eat a meal in 24 hours. When I got home, I got a horrible cold. Now, how dumb was that? That was in the days before cell phones or GPS devices or anything else that would have made me feel safer.
You're doing a good job of trying to be rational about it - you know you'll be fine. I think it's hard when you're an introvert, which I suspect you are, and you have to interact with a lot of strangers, but maybe it will be a blast. I hope so. Have a good trip!

once you get there and are settled. Have fun, Storm, and hurry back. You know, a lot of people find a computer to let others know how the day is going.
That's a hint. :)

Oh my goodness! No Lyra for a whole week...that is a long time.
No...you are not a freak or unusual. You should see me fuss about travel. It is stressful! I am phobic of planes so...I don't envy you there. But the time will pass and before you know it...you will be there. There will be moments of anxiety but hopefully there will be many moments of fun too.
You can do this!
I cannot wait to hear all about it when you return. You will be very missed though!
