I think I've said on this site a couple of times now that I've recently started participating in posting up fanfiction - it's something that makes me feel good because I'm accomplishing something I'm good at, writing, and I get near to instantaneous feedback from others on the internet reading my stories (and they are always very kind, nice things).
Merely Me asked me to explain what fanfiction was exactly - well basically it's when you use a story that is already out there, taking the situation and characters from a TV show (or I believe in some cases from a published book) and then putting them in new situations or extending scenes from the show, etc. In my case I write for Farscape, a sci-fi TV show. I might do a 'filler' which is when I feel a scene should have been added in somewhere and I write it myself, in story format not script, or a 'future fic' where I project the characters into the future on after the show finished.
Here is an example if you wish to read it. It's the most recent one that I posted and is an extension from an episode called 'Out of Their Minds' when the characters in Farscape switched bodies. Some things you should probably know - John is the only human but Aeryn is a Sebacean which is very like a human. In the episode Chiana and D'Argo switched bodies as did John and Aeryn (amongst other body swaps), and whilst in Aeryn's body John played with her breasts (well he is a guy) and she caught him doing it. Moya is a living ship that they travel in and Pilot is linked to her. John and Aeryn have had sex once before but they are afraid of having a real relationship (or at least Aeryn is because of her military upbringing).
(Almost) Out Of Their Pants
Rating (PG)
Disclaimer: This story is my way of tipping my hat to the wonderful work of Henson and co - all those who created those characters and that world we love so much. Fodder for the imagination is a welcomed and beloved thing. I hope you don't mind me borrowing these guys and taking them out for a spin.
Time Frame: Out Of Their Minds
He was still wrapping his head around it. That had to be about the most mind-blowing thing ever. Okay, yes, since that ill-fated, or perhaps simply fated, experiment had propelled him through a wormhole he had had many ‘Steven Spielberg eat your heart out' moments. What with all the E.T interaction how could it be anything less? He had been constantly intrigued, entertained, excited, flummoxed and frightened by everything that had been going on around him, and more importantly to him. But an actual out of body, switching minds experience? Well that was something that he had always fixed purely in the science fiction column. But now... now it truly felt like anything was possible.
He looked over at the enchanting dark-haired woman sitting opposite him. They quite often had these wonderful moments of just sitting together, enjoying each other's company... or at least he thought she enjoyed his company; he certainly enjoyed hers. They would just sit there, in silence, just being there... Every now and then he'd sense her discomfort, presumably brought on by all those years of Peacekeeper training, telling her she wasn't meant to feel close to anyone, and before she could run off he'd start talking. He'd babble on about anything and everything that popped into his head, telling her all about Earth and what a normal life was supposed to be like for him. Although she'd look at him like she couldn't understand half of what he was talking about, which he supposed was fair because nobody ever did, not even on Earth, she would settle down again and stay by his side. That was all he wanted - Aeryn Sun by his side.
