weird symptoms

By aml0017 Friday, November 04, 2011

I haven't posted in while part because I was on vacation (or staycation) and part because I had been in a good mood for a while.  Well, my anxiety is back with a vengeance and have been experiencing some weird symptoms I have never had before.  I just feel unfocused and jittery with my thoughts and worries just bouncing everywhere.  Normally, I fixate on one worry and go over and over it.  Also I am having violent dreams (like actual violence going on in there usually towards myself) whereas I normally have repetitive dreams of some mundane stressful event (like looking for something I can't find).  Lastly, sometimes I notice a difficulty with swallowing.  Granted, it is when I eat things like bread and such, but still I never noticed this before.  Maybe it just seems like a difficulty because I am starting to notice my own swallowing idk.

It is hard to explain I just feel like my mood is so weird right now, somewhere between anxiety and depression.  I feel anxious but also just have that despondent detached demeanor that feels like depression. Maybe it is the lack of sleep. I guess it is just after 15 yrs of all this my symptoms are usually pretty predictable.  Though they are distressing they are familiar.

Hi there

Well first of all it is good to hear from you.  Been wondering how you have been doing.  I am sorry to hear about all these new symptoms.

Okay so you have:  Jitteriness, violent dreams, and difficulty swallowing?  Is there any more?

In such cases it is good to begin ruling out things such as:

1.  Have you changed medications?

2.  Are you taking any new supplements or vitamins?

3.  How is your eating and sleeping?  Are the nightmares interfering with a good night's sleep?

4.  Are you going through any heavy duty issues in therapy...such as trauma?

5.  Has anything changed in your day to day routine?  Any new stressors or anniversaries of traumatic events?

6.  Have you been seen by your primary doctor to rule out any medical causes...allergies...thyroid problems...blood sugar levels...vitamin deficiencies...etc?

I would...keep a log of these symptoms so that you have something concrete to take to your doctor.

I had a recent time of it with chest tightening, sweating, clammy, and I wondered if it was anxiety.  It was not.  It was my gallbladder.  The link goes to my story....you may want to read it.  If these symptoms are new and you know your body and anxiety symptoms...you may want to be checked out by your primary physician to rule out an underlying medical problem.

Let us know what happens.  I am glad you wrote to us!

No real changes, except I have noticed that my period started again really heavy, and the symptoms coincide with the start of it.  The same thing happened last time my period started like this.  I have always had irregular periods but for a long time I was on birth control and then when I got off it I barely had any periods for a long time.  I do think there is something hormonal going on.  I do have an appointment with my gyno in February and have been trying to wait it out but if this happens again I will try to get an earlier appointment.  I will be seeing my GP soon and will talk to her about it.

Funnily, when I am researching some of my symptoms (like the nightmares and also a supersensitive sense of smell) I get a lot of matches for symptoms experienced during ovulation and pregnancy.
