just got this message from someone, i sure hope it helps... i dont believe my depression is sever enough for this kind of treatment... others may feel differently...
the message is as follows...
MESSAGE:
When reading the below, please remember that I am NOT A DOCTOR -- I AM A PATIENT JUST LIKE YOU. Before I say anything else, let me say this:
STOPPING YOUR MEDICATIONS OR TINKERING WITH YOUR MEDS CAN BE REALLY DANGEROUS! TAKE THEM EXACTLY AS YOUR DOCTOR PRESCRIBED. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ANY OF THEM, TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT IT and do what he or she says.
For the last 14 years, I have had recurring episodes of severe, totally disabling clinical depression, each lasting between 4 and 14 months. In recent years, the episodes were getting longer and closer together. It seemed to me that I was looking at spending the rest of my life in severe clinical depression, not a bright thought, and one that caused me to actually regret being in pretty good physical shape (I am a jogger when well), because it might mean that I would have to live at least another 20 years or so, suffering daily, under these conditions.
(Suicide is not an option for me because, among other reasons, I have a wife and family to consider.) What right do I have, I reasoned, to emotionally scar my children for life, just because I had a virtually intolerable condition? So, I'd say to myself, something like: "Well, your life is effectively over, but that doesn't mean you have the right to inflict your misery forever on the ones you love." So, I decided I would just "tough it out," no matter how bad it got-or how long it lasted.
I have been through at least 6 psychiatrists, have tried all of the commonly prescribed meds, including even some anti-psychotics that are sometimes prescribed "off-label," for treatment-resistant depression. Nothing was helping me, until I found THE COMPLETE ANSWER (at least for me).
It's called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy (TMS). On 2/2/10, I walked into the Lindner Center of Hope, in Mason Ohio, (see their website). At that time, I was not able to drive safely and could barely find my way into the parking lot.
After a series of 32 TMS treatments, one-a-day for six-weeks, I am in 100% complete remission. They gave me my life back. I personally consider this new treatment to be a Miracle from God, but it's a recent scientific medical breakthrough that, I predict, will revolutionize the treatment of "treatment-
resistant" depression.
I am back to 100% normal and went from being 100% disabled to 100% able through these treatments (gradually, over a period of 6 weeks). It's not a scam or a money-making gimmick--it's for real. It works--at least it did for me, when NOTHING else did, including shock treatments, a virtual pharmacy of meds, talk therapy, exercise, meditation, etc.
I have had three "shock" treatments that did not help. What I'm am talking about is nothing like "shock treatments," which shock the whole brain, cause a seizure, unconsciousness, and, at least for me, severe (especially short-term) memory loss. After three shock treatments, I was a total zombie, could not even read a book, and so I refused to have any more treatments. Look-if they work for you, and they must for some people-more power to you. I'm just telling you my experience.

Hi, SlinkyBrain! It's being posted elsewhere on the site. the short version was posted twice on this depression post a few days ago. I've seen it in other places but I can't remember where.
I'm not about to read it all, but there is references to another website where this miracle treatment is being done, I'm sure for a fee, and they're really not supposed to do that here. But that's what spammers do.
Hi SlinkyBrain, Merely Me, all,
I hope this post get to your Site as Ive written to HC etc to no avail and 9 out of 10 posts arent getting to DC. Here Goes-
Ive been on meds since a child due to Anxiety/Depression.
I have done an immense amount of research and read all the latest psychiatrists scholarly reports [not the pharmacuetically financed ones]
I have gone to many scammers, they know were desparate for a cure to this dreadful painful Depression, they are Scavengers of the worst type, they prey on the weak, the sick, the miserable. There is no scientific basis in their 'cures'
Neurologist would explain that its not possible to stimulate thoughts and feelings and memories and DNA propensity to Depression away.Removing the Temporal Love [lobotomy] is the only procedure that cures Anxiety and mild Depression, unfortunately, it leaves one without a personality and a shell, like Rosemary Kennedy. [JFKS sister] and is now illegal.
The latest findings in Psychiatry are as follows - they are finding that SSRIs are not the miracle they thought. They tend to relieve the Depression but cause more episodes and can tip people into Bipolar. So, they are thinking more now about just using Mood stablisers to treat Depression. Oldies that are cheap, like Lamictal and Lithium [small dose] being the favoured treatments. there is also new thinking and the Personality disorder and its Traits and effect on the personality of the person and its side effect of Depression is also coming back into play. Its a v difficult, time consuming way of getting to the Root of a Depression but is a great way to heal.
In my humble opinion, I feel, until Depression is viewed, and understood as a Dis - ease of the Thinking, Emotions, Soul and Spirit and not just a serotonin uptake dysfunction [now seriously questioned] there wont be proper treatment for Depression. Beware of Fast Cures and remember - If something seems to good to be true , thats because it is !!!
Presently we have a guy here in Ireland he says hes a healer and uses his own powers [Not God but his own great gift] to cure Depression, Cancer, you name it, people are flocking. Hes flouting Law because of loopholes regarding whatyou can and cant write and also 'Faith healer'
I've been through the evals for this and the info about lobotomies is incorrect for the temporal lobe. It's also not simple (it's a 2 or 3 operation sequence and is a very finely tuned operation.)
Don't confuse 20-30 year old techniques with what's going on today. It's very different. In fact, they can (if you are eligible - I was not once they did the first surgery) give you a life.
Don't scare yourselves!
Hi Kathy, Thanks for your reply. As you may know, I live here in Ireland. I am aware that certain Medical procedures are allowed, under certain medical cirumstances for instance, here ECT is still used, but very seldom and only when all other methods to help with violent ongoing depressions have failed. I am aware that Lobotomies are still done under certain circumstance. In alot of the cases they worked on Temporal Lobe because it is the centre of anxiety and sexuality as well as smell and memory and when Epilepsy sufferers have deja vu syndrome its a seizure in the Temporal Lobe area. I have mild Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. Lobotomies were carried out on the whims of psychiatrists in the 60s 70s and much like ECt are only used now in very very unusual and resistant cases. Im aware that even different States in America have different laws .
For instance, the death penalty. Here in the EU Most eupopean coutries including Ireland dont allow Euthanasia even when the person is v ill and wants it themselves, there is one place in Switzerland , where its not illegal. So even in 2010. Its different in different places. Lobotomies are not seen as a solution here in Ireland where we are at the forefront of Nuerology and our psychiatrists are greatly known worldwide. Take care. I didnt quite understand the post wereyou saying you had one and it worked out fine ? there are different types of Brain intevention but by 'Lobotomy' I was infact referring to the older types where they took out alot of sections which left the person a shell. Now they can remove tiny sections and a friend of mine is having that done for very very bad Epilepsy. Take care
good point
