I just wanted to post something positive - I'm not having my morning meltdowns - for a couple of weeks now, and the severe depression has seemed to have lifted...I think my girlfriend has a lot to do with helping me feel better, and lots of hard work in therapy, and meds, but I can actually say right...

My wife has the same/similar challenge as you (major depression and anxiety-treatment resistent).  One thing that seemingly helps with this 'depression in the morning' is to get more oxygen to the brain somehow in the morning early and while asleep. I sugest that you visit with a sleep specialist (MD) and have a sleep study performed. If deemed from the study that you are not getting the percent of oxygen needed to the brain (sleep apnea or other reasons) then get a C-PAP machine, ASAP. These breathing-helper-machines, used while sleeping, really seem to have helped my wife and others that have similar symptoms as you.   Another suggestion is to get out of bed upon waking, go for a long brisk walk, get quickly moving, get out of the house and exercise vigorously somehow. Don't let the thoughts in your head drive you, use your head for other more analytical purposes.  'You are not the thinker,' you are much more than that, really a special and unique creature with a purpose (find one!).

It Will Get Better! You can get there faster with exercise, C-PAP probably, and deep breathing and knowing that you are special and uniquely beautiful in who you are. Randall

I want to thank you very much for your comment.  I do not sleep well, and have thought that a sleep study might be a good idea.  As a matter of fact, my therapist did mention it a while ago.  You have good ideas, and your understanding means so much - someone out there heard me.  OK, I don't want to cry, so I can just thank you again so very much.  And I hope your wife is well.

    Take care,

    Mara

    Mara,

Wow, thanks for the prompt reply!  That made me feel good in knowing that my reply did not go into virtual-vapor-land. LOL! You should know that this was my first ever reply (ever!) to a 'talk-board' such as this.  Your challenge just touched my heart, as my wife's challenges seemingly mirror yours.

Please note that I'm not an expert in anxiety and depression, but I am a scientist somewhat involved in a related research subject arenas (human perception and cognition).  I do serve as the Family to Family Support Group facilitator (volunteer) for NAMI in my local area.  Mara, you are not alone in your challenge!  Suggest that if you have not linked up with NAMI that probably you should reach-out.  NAMI can be of excellent help.

I wish you speed in your recovery; my prayers for your strength and resolve while healing and for an improved life soon to come. You deserve this; don't give up.  Never give up!  And call today, get that sleep study prescribed by your medical professional soonest.

    Best wishes,

    Randall
