Postpartum depression (PPD) affects both women and men after a child's birth for a few hours up to a year, and can be life threatening. If postpartum exhaustion (PPE) is a cause, ample sleep will be helpful. The most common form of successful treatment is support group meetings and counseling sessions. Other than therapy, there are medications that may be prescribed. Parent or partner support and part-time childcare relief are also known to be effective in resolving PPD.
