PTSD occurs in military personnel, sexual abuse victims, and those who have been through disaster such as severe automotive accidents. Costs for PTSD on average is much greater than for any other mental health condition due to longer and more frequent in-patient hospital stays. There are also indirect costs from inability to work a fulltime job. For veterans, PTSD claims may be filed regardless of the dates and lengths of their service, testimony alone is sufficient to establish PTSD presence, and a regulation has been made to streamline services upon diagnosis.
