Hi there
I think a lot of people can relate feeling this way. It might seem like a hard topic to bring up because you may be unsure of the reaction. Is this a general practitioner you plan to tell? How long has this person been your doctor?
Doctors get all sorts of questions all day...including questions about anxiety or depression. If this doctor is any good he or she will take you seriously and investigate your symptoms. Sometimes depression symptoms can occur due to an underlying medical issue. Your doctor may do a blood panel to check for vitamin deficiencies and also check your thyroid functioning. It is probably good to begin with these sorts of tests to see if any medical conditions are contributing to your symptoms.
But if no uderlying medical conditions are found most likely your doctor will make some sort of referral for you to see a mental health professional. And this may be something you wish to do on your own. It is up to you who you first see or tell about your symptoms of what you feel to be depression. I suppose it does somewhat depend upon how your insurance works.
Don't let this go on. There is no shame in feeling depressed. This is not your fault. This is not a weakness of your character. Many people get depressed. But it is treatable and you don't have to feel this way forever.
Let us know how it goes. I think it would be an excellent first step to talk to your doctor or seek the guidance of a therapist.
Thank you for your question.
