Hi there

In researching your question I must admit that I feel confused.  Here is an article which talks about headaches caused by zoloft and prozac and what to do about them.

Yet the New York Times has an article which talks about how Prozac is one of the drugs given to help prevent Migraines from happening in the first place.

I don't have any experience with migraines myself so I am going to send you to one of our experts who does.  Our Teri Robert is an expert here on Depression Connection as well as Health Central's Migraine site

I will let her know about your question!

Hi eagleswings,

Definitely check with your doctor about this. I did a google search for "prozac causes migraines" and recieved a lot of reports about this. There was even a listing from the healthcentral site but I could not get the page to load.

Let your doctor know about this concern.

eagleswings,

It's possible that Prozac might trigger Migraines. It's more likely though that it's causing you some headaches. Can you tell the difference between your Migraines and headaches? If activity such as bending over makes it worse, it's more likely to be a Migraine; if not, a headache.

This is a side effect that can go away over time, but you should let your doctor know about it. Many antidepressants can also be Migraine preventives, so if you need Migraine prevention, maybe you and your doctor can find one that works for you for both Migraines and depression.

Let us know how this turns out?

Good luck,

Teri

For me, prozac did NOT cause migraines and I am quite prone to them and prozac helped a lot the first time I took it.  Everyone's chemistry is different though, in fact my body reacted differently to PAXIL the second time I took it than the first.  The first time I thought it was the best thing I could've ever done for myself.  The second time, I got the gitters and had to go off.  So we change, but knowing now what prozac did for me then I would definitely try it.  You would know within about a week I would think.  Hope this helped.
