Q: does it get better?

I have just had someone end the most healthy, wonderful  year relationship I've ever been in.  I found the love of my life and the feelings, trust, connection and belief that I've waited my whole life to find.  Will I ever smile again or ever be able to love again when he was all I ever wanted?

Hi Sara,

Neil Sedaka didn't sing "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" for no reason. :P It really is, and it can be the most painful thing you've ever experienced. It is perfectly valid to feel sad, lonely, rejected, lost... all of these things are normal and part of the grieving process. You are grieving the loss of the relationship and of that person's presence in your life and it does take time.

A counsellor recently told me "Things never stay the same. No matter how you are feeling, you will not feel that way forever". For now, allow yourself to feel how you feel at any given moment. Cry when you need to, stay home when you feel like it, but, as the previous respondent said, don't isolate yourself from your friends and family. They will be your rock at times like this and they will help you to get through it. I promise that you will feel better eventually. You can't put a time frame on things like this, though. Just focus on one day at a time and on the things in your life that you cherish.

Good luck to you!
