Q: If you have mild pulmonary stenosis is this a threat to your health if taking seroquel 50mgdaily 9mo

If you have mild pulmonary stenosis would this be an dangerious side effect with taking the medication seroquel 50mg daily since 10/08 at 24yrs old male?

Patient also has family history for diabetes both Grandmothers.

Does taking this drug for a long or indeffinate period of time increase your risk?

Can you ever wean off this drug effectively?

What would happen if you didnt need this drug and took it?

How do they know that this is the appropriate treatment?

What is the best available diagnosis you can receive for mental health assessment.

How can you protect your rights from being Hospitalized and held against your will.

When he was hospitalized the physician or psychiatrist would not release him unless he took this drug seroquel? I want to prevent him from ever being in there again. It was much more damaging than helpfull in my opinion. East Bay California

Hi worried mom

Can you tell us more about how your son was hospitalized?  Did he go in voluntarily?  It sounds like you need an advocate.  Unfortunately...we are just a health site and cannot get into legal matters or giving legal advice.

His rights may have been violated but you need to speak with people who will know this for sure.  I want you to start by calling NAMI...the national alliance on mental illness.  Here is their website.  And here is their telephone number:  1 (800) 950-NAMI (6264)

They will be a good first start in helping your son and protecting his rights in the future.  I am so sorry he and you have had this bad experience.  I have a mother who suffers from schizophrenia so I know how it can be.

Let us know how things go for you.

Thank-You for your responce. No he did not go voluntarily. Unfortunately I was kept from knowing until after the fact. I hope that NAMI can be of some assistance, and perhaps even be effective. But my main concern is his health and risk of taking this drug. He is understandably defiant and not continuing treatment. His general physician does not seem familiar or concerned. I will check with both of them again. I will also reffer my Son to this sight. If you could verify or clarify any of the questions asked in regard to the medication "Seroquel" and the fact of having "mild pulmonary stenosis" is greatly appreciated. Of course this is only per "refferance" in no way are you or this site liable in any way! My Son is such an Exceptionally Wonderfull Bright Handsome Young Man, I want protect the Blessing of Him in my Life!!!! Im afraid of him going into cardiac arrest. Let alone the other possible side effect of accquiring "lactating breast." My suspician is he has been groussley Misdiagnosed. I will definately be contacting NAMI, and reporting the "facilities" to which he was admitted. Thanks again for your time and concern.
