Q: I've gottne off Paxil prescribed for anxiety/anger in menopause--is there an alternative?

I was sz 10 all my life, went up 2 sizes on Paxil, plus lost ALL motivation for work, family, friends.  Off Paxil now, but the terrible sadness/anxiety and anger are back.

After 2 doc's that don't seem to know much about different anti-anxiety meds ("try this, try that")--how do I know what to try next?  Side-ffects of getting off Paxil have been awful...

I have 2 suggestions. The first is therapy to help get the issues behind the symptoms taken care of. Without the therapy you're just masking the pain and you'll always be treating with it and never dealing with it. The second is a natural supplement for depression called SAMe. It isn't prescription, you can find it at any grocery or health food store, and is also a stimulant, so be aware. My last thought on this is to make sure your health (vitamins, exercise, the way you're eating) is really in a place that sets you up for success. If you're eating poorly, not stimulating endorphins through exercise, and are deficient in basic nutrients, you aren't giving yourself the chance to feel better, you're working against it. Good luck, hope some of this helps.
