Q: My depression has worsened and I haven't been on any medication as I take a SSRI (Zomig)

for my migraines.  As I wouldn't want what is called "Serotonin Syndrome", what kind of antidepressant can I safely take?  I heard Wellbutrin may be one?

Hi Kathy,

Thank you for your question! You are correct in that Zomig and Wellbutrin can safely be taken together. These two medications do not interact with each other, though I can't say whether they would interact with any other medications you may be taking. Another option may include the class of medications known as tricyclic antidepressants. These medications are generally older class of antidepressants that are associated with slightly more side effects, but they won't increase your risk of developing serotonin syndrome if taken with the Zomig. You can read more about the different types of medications available to treat depression by clicking here. I hope this helps!

Best of luck,

Casey
