Could someone taking Haloperidol and Clonazopam switch to Effexor without serious risks?

My 32 year old son Peter has been taking Haloperidol and Clonazopam prescribed by a psychiatrist.   These drugs seem to make him very sedated and it's been hard for him to function in his daily life.  He recently lost his job as a stocker at a pet store because he had trouble functioning.

Several years ago he had the same symptoms- paranoid and obsessive thoughts and depression and he got much better taking Effexor.  So that is why I'm wondering if Effexor would help him again.

  Thank you.

       Sincerely, Peter's mom
