Hi, there.  I'm so sorry that you lost your job, which probably is contributing to your mood.  We aren't medical professionals and can't tell you what is safe or what would work for you, so I encourage you to talk to the doctor who prescribed this medication and tell him/her what's going on and the circumstances you are in.  An increase in dosage might work, but again, maybe the Effexor has lost its ability to work on you - and this is one drug that you don't want to stop suddenly because the side effects can be horrendous, from what many have talked about.  Your doctor might be able to give you samples or direct you to other resources or might decide to have you try something else.

I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I hope you will talk to your doctor and soon start feeling better.

If the Effexor has stopped working and you don't have the insurance for meds, you might ask your doctor to prescribe a generic antidepressant.  I know there is a generic for Wellbutrin and Zoloft, for example.  They only cost a small amount compared to the brand name.
