Q: Does a person taking 60 mg Cymbalta experience numbness in arms and hands.

Since starting Cymbalta I have had increasing numbness in both arms and hands, worse at times. I also have had a situation where I got up in the middle of the night and did some things, plugged in my iron and used it and then never unplugged it. No side effect for this med states numbness. I am on this med for fibromyalgia and I have had depression, dry mouth, mental problems etc. Should I be asking my physician to get off. I had a severe reaction to Lyceria, neurological where my sentences did not make sense and I did not know who I was. Have grave concerns.

Hi, Jan.  You need to talk to your doctor right away about what's going on.  It may or may not have anything to do with the Cymbalta.  Are you taking any other medications?  Please check this out soon, okay?  Your doctor needs to know what's going on and to find out if anything else serious is happening.  Good luck, sorry I can't be of more help, but we aren't medical professionals here.

Thanks - did so and am being slowly weaned off cymbalta.  It is a side effect - not a good one.  I also had neurological reaction to Lycricia and they say that if react to one may react to other even though they are not like drugs.  I am medical and married to MD but not neurological.  The drug companies only put what they know from testing but your website gives people a chance to share other problems that may arise.  Actually my husband asked a orthopod and he immediately knew but we still went to own MD.  It is just hard now days even for medical people to get their doctors to respond.  I am disappointed about the Fibromyalgia discomfort coming back but look forward I hope in a week to have my body back - started in right arm and moved up and then other arm, face and then body and legs.  Don't mistake for MS which works up the body or down it.  Have been fighting this for 40 years.  They put me on low dose methadone and it has been a life saver but the social sigma and the ER reaction when you come in for anything is that you are an addict or crock...  I have never in over 28 years taken more than the 10mg twice a day but I guess I am an addict - even though pain is relieved.  I had high hopes of coming off the methadone because of the new drugs.  Time will tell but people need to have hope.  Thank you for answering and you are correct.  Consult your physician but also share your feelings with someone.  Sometimes you don't have anyone but the internet and your type of forum to get support.  Thanks again.

Jan

I hope you're soon feeling better.  It's good to know when these unusual reactions happen - I know anything is possible with anything.  Just because something isn't listed as a possible side effect doesn't mean it isn't one.  You sound like you are doing everything you can - hopefully, people will become a little more educated (especially medical professionals!) about the use of methadone and chronic pain.  Most anyone, I think, would try anything to be rid of it.  I wish you all the best.
