Q: Is "hearing voices" always a symptom a paranoid schizophrenia?

It varies.
You can read more on Health Central's SchizophreniaConnection. Here is an article by a writer on that site, Christina Bruni, and the following was taken from that article, Schizophrenia: Common Symptoms:
"Some people hear voices non-stop and others with effective medication only hear them occasionally. The lucky among us-and there are a significant number-stop hearing voices completely once they find the drug that works."

I am in no means an expert. I had to go outside of the site to find this so I can't judge of it's authenticity:

It states here, or says here I should write, that it can be a symptom of a number of different disorders, Schizophrenia is on the list but so is Depression, Seizure type disorders like Epilepsy, and even the Flu.
Best to talk to a doctor. I have no experience with hearing voices but I am depressed so I can't give you any first hand either.
And please, don't automatically trust any site to give accurate information. Medical professional is the best bet in my personal opinion.
