Weight loss is actually more common with Effexor than weight gain, but it is possible that the Effexor is part of your problem.

Hi there

Well...it could be the Effexor.  I wrote a two part article some time ago which has many responses from people...and one of the medications people really wanted to talk about was Effexor.  Some people report huge weight gains.  Here is the specific page where you will find that thread.  Go to comment #11.

Here is another source which says that it is a possibility to gain weight on this medication but is considered rare.

There are clearly mixed reviews on this.  I would definitely talk to your doctor about this...and you can refer to my articles about antidepressants and weight to see suggestions of which ones are not supposed to make you gain weight...Wellbutrin comes to mind at the top of the list.

Hope this helps some...thank you for your question!

Hi,

I have been on Effexor 150 mg for about a year now, and have noticed a significant increase in weight gain, and i haven't really changed my eating habits, i consulted another Dr. about the Effexor and if it causes weight gain, and he said it definately does cause weight gain and it also slows down your metabolism, so needless to say i am going off this drug!
