Can manic bipolar be caused or linked by a lump found by the adrenal gland?

My mother inlaw has been in and out of the hospital for manic episodes. They are saying she is bipolar. Now she has had some episodes in the past but, nothing as strong as these. She is also waiting to have this mass on her kidney take out above her adrenal gland. Her surgery is next week until then she will probley stay in the mental ward. please if any one knows if this mass could be the cause of her manic episodes? please let me know asap. today is wed 07/29/2009.

Thanks

Hello there

Honestly I do not know.  I have never heard of such a thing but I am not a doctor.

I am going to give you the link to our Bipolar site.  Perhaps someone there will know more.  I recommend that you discuss this concern with your mother in law's doctors to find out.

I know thyroid problems can have an effect on mood but I am not sure if this is what you are talking about.

Thank you for your question.
