Q: Crack cocaine causing tremors when smoked.

My question is this -- a good friend of mine (I know, all the questions are about a friend) likes to smoke crack occasionally. However, when she does this, she gets tremors really bad. Is this a permanent side affect? This didn't happen until about 6 months ago and she has been smoking for about three years. I know it's bad for her, and she knows too, but she is cutting back and only smokes 3-4 times a month. Any insights? Thanks.

Hi there

Well...I don't know if there is such a thing as an "occassional" user of crack cocaine.  That is not what I have seen in my experience.  I probably don't have to tell you the dangers of using this drug but I will anyway...things like sudden death due to heart failire or stroke, neurological symptoms...some people develop psychosis....lung disease....oh yeah...and tremors.

I once did an internship in a day treatment program for people who suffered from drug and alcohol addiction.  By far...one of the most life damaging drugs was crack cocaine.  People lost their jobs, their friends, their family, and their kids.  One lady stabbed her sister over this drug.  I have seen and heard it all.

Tell your friend to get into a drug treatment program.  She will need some help with this.  She cannot do this alone.  And I would never believe she is only doing this once and awhile.

Hope this helps.   Thank you for your question.
