I have taken lexapro for anxiety and it did help me. I quit taking it cause I wanted to get away from prescription all together so I never took more than half a pill a day(.5mg). I have also tried 5-HTP which is an over the counter(OTC). I found it helpful also..It is not recomended to take 5-htp with antidepressants so you should check with your doctor on any changes that you make.

Hello Pat  Thank you for your response. Did you have side effects with the Lexapro? because I am so sensitive and afraid to take it, my Dr said to start with half of 5 mg..I will have to cut it with a pill-cutter..I know that pill is diff for evryone..did it cause sleeplessnes and did it cause you to gain weight..Im wondering does the Lexapro itself cause a person to gain weight or is it because the person taking it over -eats and doesnt watch their weight??

Thanks

I didnt really have side effects from lexapro. If you're worried about it start with a 1/4 pill 2 times a day. There is really no way to say about the weight gain, Happens to some and not to others..
