Hi Carol:

You have been prescribed Paxil.  If your Prozac has been working, then I would wonder why fix something that isn't broken?  Has your doctor explained why he is switching you to this drug? If you don't have a good answer, then find a doctor who will talk with you about it.

That being said, Paxil is in the same class as Prozac but can respond differently in different people. If you can tolerate the change (including the possible price difference) and if it seems to be working the same, then you should be fine.

However, speak with your doctor and then make an informed decision.

Best of luck,

Dr. Diana Walcutt
