I am on two different medications to treat my Major Depression and Generalized Anxiety, plus Xanax for sudden panic attacks.  I am on 150mg of Wellbutrin XL and 90mg of Cymbalta, recently increased from 60mg.  I have gone through many medication changes to manage my depression and anxiety, and am currently going through yet another change because the depression has worsened.  Now my psychiatrist is talking about the possibility of adding another medication to the two I'm already taking, but I just don't know.  My psychiatrist is fantastic about informing me as much as she can and letting me make the final call on the next step in my treatment and I'm looking for other opinions.  Is it wise to take 3 medications to treat my depression?  She has mentioned adding Abilify to what I'm already taking, but we opted to increase the Cymbalta at my last visit because I wasn't sure.  I'm on the third week of the increase and I'm not feeling much of a change in my mood.  Any advice is appreciated!

Hi, there.  I don't think it's uncommon to take 3 different medications, especially when you have both depression and anxiety.  And three weeks may not be long enough to notice the difference, yet.  Trust your doctor, she sounds like she's respectful of your opinions.  Everyone's chemistry is so different that it's like trying to find the right "cocktail" to suit your particular needs.  Good luck, hope you find something that works for you.
