Q: Will Lexapro eventually help ease my depression .... am desperate to get better

Hello... My stomach is crampy...gassy and  painful.... but the

depression is overwhelming.. I try everything... Right now... taking

Lexapro" for about a week.   I cannot seem to start anything... so

that becomes more  to cope with.  There is no motivation... although I normally would "keep going"

I wish there was a Magic  button to push... cannot just skip all over to various doctors... experimenting... waiting and going

down-hill.   Thank you !                 hopeful Breezy

Hi Breezy!

Just wanted to chime in here that with any antidepressant, it may take a good 6-8 weeks before it truly kicks in and gives you some relief for your depression.  I know it is a long time to wait but do hang in there.  I am hopeful that things will work out for you taking this medication.

Let us know how things go for you in the future and if the Lexapro helps or not.

Thank you for your question!

Hey Breezy. You picked a good name, that's a start! Most antidepressants are said to take at least four to six weeks to show some effect if they are meant to help. Though some people have the good fortune of more quick, good reaction.

Whether Lexapro is what you specifically need, there is no way of knowing except trying. You are making the effort and you should be proud of that. We'd all like that magic button to wellness, believe me!

If you are having stomach pain you should contact your doctor now and let them know.

You can read about Lexapro here and read about the possible side effects and what you should do. Try to decide if anything else has changed and let them know about that.

For motivation you might try reading this article and this one. Plus there is a wealth of information and different opinions here. Let us know how you are doing, please.
