Our son is in 10th grade. He has taken Paxil for nine years to treat generalized anxiety disorder and Adderall XR for ADHD. We tried to slowly wean him off his meds second semester of 7th grade, but his grades tanked. Now if he forgets to take his daily dose (30 mg) of Paxil he experiences the side effect of vomiting.

What is his doctor telling you? Is the doctor willing to try other drugs?

They list many common medications which can be used for anxiety and information about each, on this page
I'd check with your son's physician, I hope you are able to find that one of these drugs works as well or better. Unfortunately, without trying them, there is no way to know how they will affect each of us. I'm sorry your son is experiencing this. If you do try, it would be nice to know if you found one better.
They also have an ADHD site with information. An article by a Health Central writer, Eileen Baily, citing the differences between ADD and ADHD notes the treatment for both is the same.
