I don't know much about cutting and self-injury, but I've read that sometimes this occurs in depression as a way for us to distract us from the emotional pain by inflicting physical pain.

Have you talked with a doctor or counselor about this?

Please keep talking to us and know we're here for you.

Hi Tina

I have been there.  Like Paul said...I wrote an article about this topic because I used to cut.

There are a lot of different reasons...sometimes it is a way to feel something when we feel numb, sometimes it is a release....it breaks the stress...it is a way to hurt ourselves when our depression makes us feel unworthy...it is a way to control all the pain and rage we feel underneath.

How frequently are you cutting?

It is possible to stop...and it is possible for you to feel better.  Have you told anyone that you are doing this?  It has to be a safe person who will not judge but will help.  Is it possible for you to talk about this with a therapist?

I am sorry you are going through this.  Please continue to write here and let us know how you are doing.  This is a safe place for you to come to when you need us.
