Hi, started taking Prestiq 50mg 4 days ago (1st anti-depressent every taken) and haven't been able to sleep since but don't feel very tired because of it. How long is it likely to take before this side effect and my mild nausea are relieved or should i resort to a sleeping tablet?

Hi, there.  Please don't second-guess this - talk to your doctor right away about not being able to sleep and not feeling tired and see what he/she suggests.  The nausea will probably subside in time, but I don't think you should be having this severe a case of insomnia.  The other possibility is that the Prestiq hasn't really kicked in yet and it's a part of the depression.  So, please call your doctor and resolve this safely, okay?  Thanks for reaching out here.

Thanks for your input. i can sleep but only for very short periods of time, so i get maybe a total of 1-1.5 hours sleep per night as a guess. It's not a restless night aside from the occassional very short vivid dream so i still feel rested in the morning. The last 4 years however i have gotten 4-5 hours sleep per night but absolutely trouble sleeping for up to 16 hours if i had the time. I can usually fall asleep within 30 seconds.
