Q: my husband is depressed how do i help

He suffered a heart attack three months ago. Since then depression and excessive drinking has set in. How do I cope and help?

The best thing that you can do, for both of you, is to insist that he gets treatment. Depression is very common with heart disease and his doctor should be prepared to recommend someone who can help. Chances are that talk therapy would be a big help, especially if the heart attack brought up a lot of fears about his mortality and future physical wellbeing.
