Q: My husbands Doctor wants him to have Electric Shoch Theraph what do you think? Good or Bad

My husband has severe major depression with panic and disorder. At this point he takes 1200 mg a day, Lithium, risperdol, zoloft, cymbalta, Toprol, crestor, clonazipam, thyroid medicine and I can't remember the rest. He has suicidal ideations with a plan, heres voices at times, and now is just a zombie in motion. He is very flat and I have to watch him all the time he has been hospitalized two times and they let him dc before he due to insurance. I am asking for your help because I am at a loss and don't know what else to due. I am trying to research ECT and get opinions. If you could just let me know what you think I would appreciate It. Medication doesn't help and at this point it seems to be our only option. Thanks Christian

Dear Christian,  You have to be a tue Angel to deal with this!  If he's gone through all this, it sounds like an (forgive an evil emotion that has really entered him).  On a personal note, maybe some of the meds are taking him down.

Long time ago, I tried to commit suicide.  The medicines made it worse.  Now, of course, I am dealing with a husband too, that is depressed but he must need meds and aren't on them.

I am so sorry.  Has he gone with you to church?  Do you think that would help?  Or your church coming to him?  Bless you soo much.  My heart goes out to you.  What does he say about the electric shocks?  He is grasping at everything right now and you are too.  Do you have confidence in this doctor.?  Did you get a second opinion?

My mom had ect while i was in high school. the pourpse of ect is to reset the brain. it may pull him out of the depression or at least make it less painful to get through the day. ect is sending electrobes to the brain which onsets a slight cesure. the chemicals in the brain are effected and resets them. it may take a few times to work but i think he will get better. my mom had over 5 treatments and is doing fine today. that was 12 years ago. i know how hard it is to deal with someone you love that has a mental illness. i deal with slight depression my self and ptsd. my heart goes out to you and your husband and i hope that he feels better soon. discuss with the doctor about long term side effects.
