Losing weight with antidepressants and fatigue

alex

How do you lose weight gained with paroxetine. I've gained 15-20 pounds. I don't feel like myself. Also, I suffer from terrible fatigue. I can barely get up in the morning. Then, I compensate by drinking too much coffee and cannot fall asleep easily. I also have Hashimoto's. Thanks.

I would like to know also.  I take effexor, not paroxetine, but I think it is at least partially responsible for my 30 pound weight gain.  I have terrible fatigue and can't get up either.

Plus I have Graves disease, which was treated by irradiation so now I am hypothyroid, as with Hashimoto's.  I have been taking levothyroxin of one brand or another for nearly 20 yrs, and having thyroid problems has a HUGE impact on every aspect of your life.  Even endocrinologists seem to think it is no big deal to simply take your supplements, but I have never been the same since my diagnosis.  I don't see how such a fine-tuned process as that of the thyroid gland can be duplicated by taking a pill.  So, that is my long-winded way of saying that I think the Hashimoto's likely has a lot to do with your difficulties.

You definitely need to talk to your doctor. Weight gain on antidepressants is not a given, and fatigue can really change your life. There are plenty of antidepressants out there, and you should tell your doctor that you want to find one with minimal side effects.
