Q: Depression, While on and after quiting Chantix

My fiancée has been on Chantix for over a year on and off. Over the last year she seems to be depressed and the last month she has had real odd behavior (listening to different Music, Cheated with ex, spending $$ she don’t have, etc). She blames me for her not being happy. She has started smoking again and stopped taking the drug. My cousin was also on Chantix and had serious problems with depression after getting off of the drug. I have read that Chantix can cause depression; my question is does this sound like depression? If so is there anything that can been done if I convince her to go to a doctor.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Chantix is something that I have tried and found to be undependable. I found it better to quit cold turkey than on chantix and I would certainly hope that I wouldnt need it on and off for a year. Expensive stuff! My doctor gave me samples of lexapro to take for my depression before she would even let me try the chantix. I definitely experienced depression on the chantix. Reply
