After suffering my first severe bout of depression at age 15 I was put on prozac and had a manic episode.  I have not come close to a manic episode since and have only had severe depression.  I take 900 mg of lithium and 10 miligram of Lexapro a day.  I am now 30 and currently have a severe depressive episode. Would it be ill advised to stop taking Lithium and only an anti depressant.

Hi, there.  Have you talked with your doctor about this?  We aren't medical doctors on this site, although different people have had different experiences with a variety of medications, but it's such an individual thing that what works for one may not for another.  Is it that you'd like to stop the lithium?  The lithium could be the reason you've not had any more manic episodes, so I would really urge you to talk to your doctor about the pros and cons; maybe you need more or a different antidepressant.

Don't know if that was much help, but feel free to write in any time, let us know how you're doing.  Take care.

Hey there

I think it would...please don't make any changes without talking to your doctor.  I am thinking such a change could kick you into mania.
