Q: Child Depression?

Could my child have depression? I am noticing trouble falling asleep, constant drowsiness (even after 12 hours of sleep), sadness, boredom, and irritability. What should I do? Frown

Hi, there.  The symptoms you're mentioning do sound like depression.  Have you talked with your child's teachers about his/her behavior at school?  Sometimes a teacher can give you a good perspective.  I think I would take your child to a psychologist for an evaluation and then you'll know.  Don't be afraid of making a mistake about it, it's better to be safe than sorry.  One of my sons was depressed before he was 12 and by the time I took him in, they were about ready to hospitalize him, so I probably waited too long.

Thanks for reaching out here and hope things go okay for you and your child.  It's good that you're noticing the symptoms.
