Q: Exhausted all the Time

Hi all

I was wondering if anyone else deals with severe levels of exhaustion related to their depression or anxiety. The reason I ask is that I find myself always tired it doesn't seem to matter if I've had a good day or a particularly bad one. The only thing I know is that my depression and anxiety are always with me so I wonder if it's just a symptom I need to learn to accept and deal with.

Thanks

Izzy

Hi Izzy

Well...yeah...I suffer from exhaustion too but...in my case I never know now if it is due to my depression or my MS.  It could also be that you just have a really busy schedule.

Here are things that come to mind when you say you are feeling so tired.

1.  Have you checked to see that this is not a medical issue as in a thyroid problem or that you need iron?

2.  Do you get a good and restful sleep?

3.  Do you exercise?  It seems that one would be more tired from exercising but...the reverse is true...regular exercise gives you stamina and strength.

4.  Are you eating okay?  Getting enough iron and protein?

5.  Taking any meds which have a side effect of being tired?

6.  Are you taking any vitamins or supplements to help?

and...if you could assess a patten...when are you the most fatigued?

Thanks for asking about this...I think this is a topic a lot of people who have depression want to know about.

How are you doing otherwise Izzy?

Wow thats a lot of questions to answer a question lol Wink

1. I've been tested for thyroid already and just about anything and everything else as well, as much as I hate going to the doctor they seem to love sending me for testing and what not.

2.  I've actually been sleeping a lot better since I moved into my own place which surprised me at first because I was use to waking up frequently.

3. Exercise and I have a love hate relationship lol I can actually do very little of it for any length of time because I have CP, and so if I try to push myself generally I'll end up hurting myself which is never pleasent. When I am out I do tend to walk places or swim when I can.

4. Eating and I are sort of iffy with one another right now because money is very tight while im waiting on student loans. Not starving myself but I can't say cup of soup and glasses of water are entirely filling.

5. I'm actually med free I haven't been on anti depressents for over a year which has been both good and bad depending on the day.

6. Never really considered vitamins actually.

I feel the most tired around mid afternoon, right now for example its only 4:30 and I'm struggling to stay awake. Not the most convientient thing when I have classes that run till 10 oclock at night some days.

In terms of everything else right now I'm really good I've enjoyed orientation at school this week and start my first class tomorrow. Glad to be in my own place for sure as it means that I have a bit more freedom and dont feel as stressed by family pressures.

Hi Izzy:  I also suffer from SEVERE anxiety, chronic stress, and chronic severe depression, along with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and sleep apnea.  I have like absolutely NO energy!!!!  I can make a pot of coffee and need to sit down to take a break and rest and catch my breath.  I could not understand what was going on, so I started checking things on the net.  I had no idea that these symptoms were due to anxiety,etc...  I know that my answer will not help you physically, but just know now that your not alone.  I also know now that I am not the only one dealing with this debillitating problem.
