This worked for me-hope it will for you!  I am a certified pharmacy technician and was on Effexor XR 75mg for 5 years.  Tried talking to the doctor and the pharmacists I work with about how to get off of it.  Since there was the usual info out there I had 2 previous unsuccessful attempts.  This was what worked:  First and most important thing I found was getting the doctor to switch me to the regular, immediate-release form of Effexor which comes in a tablet and is alot cheaper since it comes in generic.  Since it is not long acting, and needs to be taken twice a day I spent one week getting used to the twice a day.  Found if I took it after breakfast and dinner it spaced it out right and I could (mostly) remember to take it.  Any later at night seemed to make it harder to get to sleep.  Next I started decreasing my dose by 1/4 tablet at night.  This is what I mean:   1 tab am--1 tab pm  1 tab am--3/4 tab pm 3/4 tab am--3/4 tab pm 3/4 tab pm--1/2 tab pm 1/2 tab pm--1/2 tab pm 1/2 tab am--1/4 tab pm 1/4 tab am--1/4 tab pm 1/4 tab am--1/8 tab pm 1/8 tab am--1/8 tab pm 1/8 tab am--no tab pm Off it!!!!!!!  Gave myself 6 months to do it but it went so well I did it in 1 month.     Experienced NO nausea, or other symptoms other than a little of the strange brain dizziness that feels like your brain is catching up to your head whenever it moves too fast.  And that happened only when I got down to the 1/8 tablet!  Good luck!
