I was wondering if anyone out there experiences the "Sunday Blues." Each Sunday, even if I try to keep myself busy, I experience a terrible existential dilemma. I feel as though my life is terrible and cry a lot. I am fine by Monday afternoon when my momentum for the workweek gets going. I hate not looking forward to Sundays. Why does this happen and what can you do about it?Cry

I get a bit of the "Sunday blues" but mine are not as bad. I think it would be best for you to look at why you get to feeling so bummed. Do you enjoy your job? Is your weekend sleep schedule a lot different than on weekdays? Do you have a major source of stress on Sundays? Those things can affect how we feel about starting the work week. Also, make sure you allow some "me time" on Sunday so you can do what you want and feel more relaxed.

Thanks. Yes, I wonder about those things, but it is more of a feeling of emptiness. With little distraction or momentum, I am in a "slump." What do I want to do today? No motivation when it's a day I could be enjoying myself!

When I was working, I always had the Sunday blues.  My situation at work was nearly intolerable and the thought of facing another whole week there was overwhelming.  Do you think it's something about what you do with your time all week?

It might be, although I do not have an extremely stressful job. I feel as though on Sunday, when all is quiet, I am forced to look at the emptiness. There is nothing distracting me so I am forced to see my life. Maybe that means I am not happy with where I am right now? I live in a little apartment above a family. I moved here just over a year ago, new job, new state. I took a salary cut to come here and I'm in debt. It could be that I am where I am and I don't know where to go from here? Oh, and I have no idea what I want...

No wonder you feel lonely!  Everything is still relatively new.  Have you made any new friends?  I can't imagine moving somewhere where I don't know anyone.  Maybe when you get a clearer picture of where you want to be it will help.  Or maybe you could think of something enjoyable to do on Sundays, something to look forward to.

Hope you have a good week-end!

Oops...thought I was just signing in, but must have posted a blank "comment."

Thanks for the encouragement. I think you are right, to find a specific thing I enjoy doing on Sunday and plan for that. Time does probably help, too. Thanks and have a good weekend, too.

Interesting--I thought I was the only one--really!  I always feel like everyone else is out doing something fun and I should be doing the same.  But I'm not.  Also, for me, I think a lot of it is the lack of structure.  When Monday comes, I do much better.

I think that "lack of structure" really sums it up. I talked to my girlfriend yesterday and she sits around and watches 5 hours of Charmed among other useless things. And her life is so active during the rest of the week. Maybe others are managing there Sundays better, but I would like to know what their secret is. Also, momentum is a component. On the work week days, I have to get up to go to work and I keep going into the evening by sheer virtue that I got up and got moving early.
