Q: What is being done about television programing that perpetuate stigma?

Is television programing continuing to add to the stigma? The next season of "House" is focused on a ""NutHouse"". The previews show physical restraint. This is upsetting me. Has NMHA looked into this?

Hi there

I have watched that show...I am sorry to hear that they are so insensitive.  Did they actually use the word, "Nuthouse"?  Maybe you should write a letter to express your views.  Such depictions certainly don't help that is for sure.

Thank you for telling us about this.

Hello;

  There is a organization called NAMI.  This stands for National Alliance For Mental Illness.  I think they try to help people, families of people that have mental illness learn more about this illness and how to deal with it.  I also think that NAMI has taken steps to educate those who puts out shows or movies about mental illness.  Some people have created some show that have no idea what they are doing, and some do.  I don't know why I feel that way,but I do.  I could be wrong.  I can relate to you.  I have friends who have schiphrenia, hear voices.  They are not crazy.  I have friends who are bi-polar.  They also are not crazy.  They are normal people like everyone else.  They simply have a chemical imbalance.  It's really sad.  So much work we all need to do to educate those in the entertainment business about mental illness.
