Q: have been taking amitriptyline for about 5-7 years to treat my IBS, anxiety&depression.it has definitely helped.recently having probs w/low sodium&dry mouth.any other suggestions for a similar drug?

The reason I am asking advice is that these problems associated with the amitriptyline has started to cause other major problems: cavities due to dry mouth and the low sodium due to excessive water intake throughout the day. I am a runner, so I don't mind the extra water. But I do mind the cavities. Also, I have osteoporosis and am only 34. I went to an endocrinologist and she is the one who discovered the the low sodium in my blood while checking for other things related to the low bone density. I am afraid to switch from the Amitriptyline since this is the ONLY drug that has helped to calm my anxiety, depression and most of all IBS flare-ups. Any suggestions? Please know I am a typically a healthy person - I eat well, exercise and have a great life. But yikes....these issues have to STOP.
