What causes me to wake up in the middle of the night ringing wet with sweat and heart racing?

I take xanax to be able to sleep at night. I wake up in the middle of the night soaking wet and my heart racing. I have hypertension; but I'm on medication to help keep it under control.(Avilide 300/12.5 mg.) I also take Toprol XL-100 mg. I'm 55 years old and have had a...
