Prestiq does not work by itself and I have to combine it with 300 mg of Welbutrin - why is that?

I have been on Zoloft for 9 years and was moved to Welbutrin because I was tired of the weight gain and also have no sexual energy. It di dnot help me with the depression though. So I was moved to Prestiq. I definitly feel a lot less lethargic and have more energy. I have also seen a significant loss in appetite. But I find myself a lot more angry. Also by itself it did not seem to help me with my depression+anxiety. Now I am taking Welbutrin 300mg in addition to 50 mg Prestiq to keep a balance, not burst into tears and get thru the day. I am worried that I am taking too much medication? I am worried about the long term effects of this stuff? I am also worried that I might not be on the right medications for my issue? Appreciate any guidance.

Hello!

Depression is a personal health issue for me....

MPS,

There are several possible explanations here. First, it's not uncommon for Wellbutrin to be added to another antidepressant to counteract sexual side effects.

However, your depression and anger need to be dealt with, as does the loss of appetite if it's too severe.

How long have you been taking the Prestiq? Sometimes, we have to take a medication for weeks before it really takes effect.

Your concern about the right medication is valid, and your concerns should be discussed with your doctor. OK? If you have trouble expressing yourself to your doctor about these issues, as many of us do, type up a list of issues similar to what you wrote to us here. That will help you and your doctor address your medication issues.

Good luck,

Teri

Hi Terri

Thanks for your response.

I have been on Pretiq since March 23. I took only Prestiq for the first 2 weeks and ended up being a basket case. I called the doctor and he had me add welbutrin to the mix. That seemed to help some. I have good days and bad. Unfortunately the bad are really bad and those are the ones that worry me. I have left a mesg with a therapist and am waiting for a call back.

The loss of appetite is fairly high with Prestiq+welbutrin. at present I am not complaning but I will bring it up with the doctor as you suggested.

Thank you again.
