Q: Is Citalopram a anti depression or anti anxiety med? and would this med cause me to gain weight?

Here is the information Health Central has about Citalopram. It is an antidepressant, but doctors can and do use drugs for off label conditions if they believe it will help. You can also talk to your doctor or pharmacist for more information about this drug and it's uses.

 

As drugs.com states about Citalopram (Celexa):

 

"Citalopram may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide."

As the side effects section states, one of them can be loss of appetite, but you or another may find yourself gaining weight on any one drug, even if this is not a listed side effect. We react differently often to the same drug. The only way you know for sure is to try it.
