Q: What do you do when anti-depressants don't work

I have tried most all of the anti-depressants and nothing seems to work for more than a few months. I just recently tried S-ame which seemed to work for about 2 months until I quit smoking and used Committ (nicotine replacement lozenges). Could the committ keep the S-ame from working. I have tried many times in the past to quit with the committs and after a while the depression comes back fast and furious. I am wondering if there might be a connection.

I even tried the research project for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, but the depression only seemed to lessen somewhat.

I have gone to 4 Psychiatrists and none has found anything to relieve the depression.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated because I have run out of ideas.

It's so frustrating, isn't it? This is one of the few illnesses with which there is no one size fits all treatment.

Yes, it's entirely possible that the Committ is keeping the SAM-e from working. I don't know much about either substance, but your experience seems to indicate that it's a possibility.

You also might talk to your doctor about what is called a drug cocktail, or combination of antidepressants. Sometimes that's more effective than just one medication.

Also, talk therapy and antidepressants combined is the most effective depression treatment, so you might want to look into talk therapy.

What do you do when depressants don't work?

I have also tried many kinds of anti-depressants  and the onlyone that I can remember that was given to me by a neurologist at Mayo clinic was many years ago, a doctor who was very interested in my problem--and he had me taking LIbrium, whihc it seems is now not on the market.  He apparently thought I was very nervous, too- which I am, but  the depression is worse now than ever.  Have been on all of the anti-depressants , (am sure), but now my doctor (psychiatrist) wants to try me on the "new" one, which I see has many serious side effects---I am hesitant to try this new pi,ll (Prestiq)- because I have thought of ending my life, and it reads (on the enclosed brochure) that this new pill may cause one to  attempt or commit suicide.  I am deeply depressed, and my husband suffers also,

since he does not know how to help.  P.S.  Forgot to mention that the LIbrium was very good  for me.

Thank you for any help.
