Q: Pristiq 50mg making me sick, is this medication not right for me? Please Help!

Hi, i have had a persistent eye blinking tic that i have had for about a year and has recently become quite severe, at first i thought it was touretts syndrome, but after i finally forced myself to consult a doctor, he has diagnosed me with anxiety. My doctor has prescibed me with Pristiq 50mg, i have been taking this for 5 days now, the first day was okay, but the second and third day was awful, i felt so depressed and horrible, dizzy, nausea, diarrhea. The 4th and 5th day were much the same, i am still feeling quite ill and have no motivation, my mood is very flat. On the positive side, my persistent eye blinking has stopped, i am only blinking in excess when i am put around big groups of people, eg. on the train. Are these side effects normal, and will i feel better soon, or is the medication not right for me?

Hi, Lucy.  I found a sharepost written by Merely Me that refers to the side effects of Pristiq, as well as a number of comments made by people who have taken it.  Some report stomach pain that subsided over time, but if it gets too uncomfortable, I would definitely talk to your doctor about this.  Everyone tolerates these drugs differently, so there might be an alternative to this that would not affect you so much.  I'm sure you're glad to be rid of the eye blinking; there are some drugs that can cause tics like that and some other neurological symptoms.  I wish you all the best and hope you can find a satisfactory solution.

STOP TAKING THE MEDICATION. I THINK IT IS CARELESS FOR A DOCTOR TO PUT YOU ON MEDS FOR AN EYE TIC..DO YOU HAVE ENOUGH CALCIUM IN YOUR BODY, DO YOU TAKE VITAMINS.

HAVE YOUR BLOOD TESTED INCLUDING YOUR HORMONES

THE DRUG YOU ARE TAKING MY FRIEND HAD HORRIBLE RESULTS WITH AND ALOT OF OTHER PEOPLE TOO HAVE COMMENTED ON THIS MED

IF YOU ARE TRULY DEPRESSED( I MEAN MORE THAN AN EYE TICK) STICK WITH THE OLDER ANTIDEPESSANTS. I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES MY DOCTOR PUT ME ON  A NEW MED AND LATER THEY FOUND OUT IT DESTOYED YOUR LIVER... I WAS SENT 10 DIFFERENT CLASS ACTIONS SUITS TO GET IN VOLED WITH.

YOU HAVE TO BE AN EDUCATED PATIENT  DOCTORS ARE NOT GOD ALOT CAN BE EXTREMELY CARELESS.

MY FRIEND AND I ARE ON ZOLOFT  STARTED WITH 50 AND WENT UP TO 100 AFTER A MONTH  SHE LOVES IT. I THINK IT MIGHT BE HELPING A LITTLE. NO SIDE EFFECTS FOR EITHER OF US.

IF YOU ARE GETTING SICK THAT IS YOUR WAY OF YOUR BODY TELLING YOU IT IS NO GOOD...SERIOUSLY STOP.

ALSO IF YOU ARE REALLY DEPRESSED B/C I WOULD NOT TAKE ANTI DEPRESSANTS UNLESS IT IS SEREVE BC YOUR LIVER HAS TO WORK HARD TO DETOXIFY YOUR BODY. YOU NEED AND SHOULD BE IN THERAPY.

I HAD AN EXPERIENCE JUST 6 MONTHS AGO ..I WENT TO AN EXCELLENT" DOCTOR   HE PRESCRIBED AN ANTIBIOTIC WHICH I READ WAS REALLY BAD IF YOU HAD FIBROMYALGIA WHICH I HAVE ...HE SAID DON'T WORRY IT IS FINE.

WITHIN 3 DAYS OF TAKING SUCH DRUG ALL MY TENDONS KNEES ANKLE HANDS SHOULDER WERE SO SEVERLY SWOLLEN I COULD NOT FUNCTION.OR WALK

I LOOKED THE DRUG UP ON THE INTERNET AND IT SAID IT WAS TO BE PULLED OFF THE MARKET BY THE FDA..IT CAUSES TENDON RUPTURES AND DESTROYS YOUR MUSCLES AND EVEN THE FDA PUT A BLACK BOX ON THE MEDICATION...DON'T YOU THINK THIS EXCELLENT DOCTOR SHOULD HAVE KNOWN IT.IT DISABLED PEOPLE PERMANTLY!!!

BE VERY VERY CAREFUL AND DO NOT TAKE ANY MEDICINE UNLESS YOU HAVE GOOGLED IT AND DONE YOUR RESEARCH.

HOPE THIS HELPS
