According to the FDA, Osmotica Pharmaceuticals makes venlafaxine hydrochloride extended release tablets in 37, 75, 150, and 225 mg dosages. Both my mail order pharmacy and drugstore.com show them as being available. These are tablets, not capsules as Effexor XR is. Your doctor or pharmacist can confirm for you that they're equivalent.

Thanks for the response.  I didn't know that the XR could be in tablet form.  I thought it had to be capsules with "beads" to be extended release.  I use a mail order service and it was their suggestion to save money (for them - not me).  I will try to contact another pharmacist to verify as I don't want to change if there is any difference at all.  The capsules work very well for me and don't want to mess up my current success on this.

Hi

I take 37.5 XR and there is no generic--if ins don't cover the med try the company which is Wythe-I getting my for a year free.

Hi, Suzanne,

You might take a look at my reply to this question and check with your pharmacist. The extended release venlafaxine hydrocloride tablets look like generic equivalent to me.

Hope this helps you too,

Teri
