Q: Is my medication working less or are circumstances causing me to have more severe depression?

I am on a certain medication. It was working wonderfully but I had to go off of it while I was pregnant. I started having panic attacks when my son was 2 months old, and went back on the medicine as soon as I could. I have been back on it now for 6 months. However, it does not seem to be working well at this point. I have a lot of very stressful things happening in my life right now, but I don't know if that is why it seems to be less effective. Should I ask my doctor about the possibility of increasing the strength of the medicine or should I wait and see if I feel better when ( and if ) things calm down?

Sarah,

Definitely talk with your doctor. He or she needs to know how you're feeling. Lots of things could be at play here. Your body may not be responding to the medication the same way it did before your pregnancy. You could also be experiencing some post-partum depression.

Your doctor can help you figure out if your medication needs to be changed or adjusted and if maybe you need to add some therapy for a while.

Congrats on your baby and good luck,

Teri
