Hello there. I agree with Sam. You don't have to tell your boss it's depression and if your therapist thinks taking time off will help, go for it. I did it on two different occasions and it did help, took a lot of pressure off me to perform. I did choose to tell my boss about the depression, though, because I had known him already for a long time and felt that it took less energy to tell the truth than to try to hide it, but you have to do what you feel comfortable with. It's unfortunate that there is still such a stigma about mental health issues because it just makes it that much harder to take care of ourselves. Good luck, hope you decide to do it and use it to do some good healing work!
Hiya down in the dumps... I'll assume that your question reads "....know that it is because of depression." You don't have to do you? You can call it a medical condition.. in fact if you tell your boss it is a personal medical condition and your boss is a man he won't want to know any more becos he will assume it's 'woman's business'.
Either way tho, if you trust your therapist, and if there is a plan for what you will be doing with the hours at home rather than at work (this is important as floating around home with time to think may not result in happy thoughts!), then u must do this. You must take time off for YOU. You are far more important that this job. Because you may not have a job in x days or months if you don't give yourself time to heal, think and grow.
Please put yourself first and leave Life to fill out the rest... please.
Sam
