Hi, Kelly. We aren't medical professionals here so can't really tell you what to do, but it's generally not a good idea to start changing medication dosages without talking to your doctor about it. With Effexor, especially, there can be some bad withdrawal effects. If the doctor agrees with decreasing your dosage, he would probably have you lower it in very small increments over a long period of time so that you don't go through withdrawal. If it's your doctor who has told you to take it every other day, that's another story - I can't tell you if it's safe or not.
Hope that helps some.
