Q: How do you explain to people who have never experienced PTSD what it is?

My PTSD is due to 3 close family members deaths in 8 years/4 years apart. The most recent was 1 week ago. They can't or won't understand my reluctance to get too close to another family member who 82, has Altzheimers and lives in a continued care facility. Help please?

Hi there

I am so sorry that you have experienced so much loss and grief in this amount of time.  Are you seeing a therapist to deal with this?

So is your reluctance to see the family member who has Alzheimers because you are reminded of the other people you have lost?  What is it that you most fear?

Teri Robert just wrote an article about the basics of PTSD which you can read here.

You don't need to deal with this alone.  I am thinking that a therapist might help you to deal with your grief.

Please hang in there and let us know how things go for you.
