Q: Pristiq or Effexor XR

Is there a danger of Seratonin poisoning with Pristiq?  I have been taking Effexor XR for 8 years along with 2 other antidepressants. If I d/c Effexor XR and take Pristiq what are the advantages?

Hello Jenni

How many antidepressants are you thinking of taking at once?

Know that Effexor can be especially hard to wean off of for many people.  Here is Health Cental's page devoted to Effexor withdrawal.  We have some information about Prestiq from member's which you can see here at our Member Medication Review.

I think this is a decision you will definitely have to research and weigh carefully.  Some of the side effects I have heard about from members here are stomach upset and changes to libido.  Please do consult with your doctor before making this change and know that the withdrawal from Effexor can be challenging.

Thank you for your question.

I have been taking three antidepressants for years.  Trazodone, Wellbutrin XL and Effexor XR. I just asked what the advantages were of d/c'ng Effexor and starting Pristiq. I guess I wasn't very clear. Thanks.

Women must   stand up to big pharma’s bullying them   to over-medicate with antidepressants washing out their emotions & personalities and interfering being mothers, sisters, brothers, daughters, partners and lovers.. Women are targeted for antidepressants by big Pharma in the same way that tobacco companies targeted us 70 years ago. Drug companies are so effective at selling unhappiness to women that women take more than twice as many antidepressants as men.
