Q: Hello, I used to get panic attack especially in the night, not able to sleep. I feel like something

Hello, I used to get panic attack especially in the night, not able to sleep. I feel like something is going to happen. Getting diziness, unable to stand and feel like to go to the hospital immediately. This happened one year back last for about hours. Few years back, I had almost same symptoms like sweating and palpitation espeacilly in the night and not able to sleep. This worried me and my family, I approached a psychiatric and was on medication about months and got better. After last year incident I met another psychatric and he told me this is panic attach with depression. started Sertalin mg and Alparazolin (one tablet) once in a day in the night. Intially it was difficult to manage sertalin but I continued to used it for about months and was getting better and stopped the medication. Now after about a gap of 6 months again same thing is happening in the night. I had been to the hospital twice in the night because I was thinkig something is going to happen. I used to take alcohol somtimes, those days the condition would be worsed. Now I approched onother psychiatric, he advised me to continue sertalin and alparazolin. Is there any danger in taking sertalin after a long gap. I also worried about the side effect of the drugs. I was having mild hypertension and it is under control. My echo showed, mild mitral and tricapsid regurgitation. Doctor said nothing worry about it follow the echo yearly. How can I back to normal life. I am not entertaining my kids, but at work I am able to do my best. I would like to take alcohol sometime especially during my vacation (every year for about 40 days) with my friends. Is it possible for me to do this with my condition? hope thins time you can answer me and help me. I am having sertalin now but I haven't taken yet. Please help

Hello there

I am sorry but we can't really give you any medical advice...this has to come from your doctor. If he is telling you that you are able to take the Zoloft...I would trust him.

In the meantime here is information about Zoloft from Health Central.  You will see the side effects listed for you to read.

It is my opinion that you probably should not drink alcohol while on these medications...it is just never a good mix and will undoubtedly make your symptoms worse not to mention the dangers of being intoxicated.

Wanted to mention to you that we have an excellent Anxiety site here on Health Central.  They may be able to give your further suggestions.

I hope this helps some.  Thank you for your question.
